Sonatrach awards $1.5 billion contract to Petrofac-HQC consortium

Sonatrach Group Algeria recently announced, via its subsidiary STEP Polymers, of the construction of a petrochemical complex in Arzew industrial zone Algeria, will be done by Petrofac-HQC consortium.

“STEP Polymers Spa (a 100% subsidiary of SONATRACH) awarded EPC (Engineering, Procurement, & Construction) contract tp Petrofac-HQC consortium for the construction of a petrochemical complex in Arzew industrial zone (west of the country) for the production of 550,000 tons/year of polypropylene for an amount of USD 1.5 billion,” the oil and gas group said in a statement.

“This is the culmination of a selection process, launched in April 2021, through a limited consultation, with world leaders in the field of petrochemical complex construction,” Sonatrach said.

“The contract was awarded to the best bidder, Petrofac-HQC consortium, in accordance with the procurement procedure in force within STEP Polymers Spa, for a completion period of 42 months.”
